For Services and Resources in French Polynesia

The Tahiti Cruisers Guide is brought to you by Julien Desmont from Xperimental and Chuck Houlihan from Jacaranda. Starting as an idea based on the very successful Panama City Cruisers guide, it has evolved into 200+ pages of information on vendors and services throughout French Polynesia. In January 2018, we added GPS coordinates and links to Google Maps to assist in locating businesses.

Downloading the guide and GPS map coordinates will facilitate using the guide offline. The coordinates will work for either Maps.me (best for Papeete) or Google Maps.

Especially thankful to John (SV Mary Ann II) and Steve (SV Ocean Star) for their huge effort in supplying a vast amount of information for the guide.

The guide is a community effort. Updates and new additions are greatly appreciated. If you find the guide useful or find something that needs updating please drop us a note at tahiticruisersguide (AT) gmail.com

9-2022 SV Reva Reva
Bought a multihull sy Reva Reva unseen on Tahiti. I used Christophe Citeau as surveyor. He is not to be trusted. A couple of main things he overlooked on the boat was the following: One engine was toast. (Knocking and blue smoke), 200 liter of saltwater in the hull, windlass had broken of alot of pieces so its impossible to use. And the list goes on.

5-2021 SV Capella I used Christophe Citeau on Raiatea to survey the hull of a 45ft catamaran I subsequently purchased sight unseen from NZ. Be wary of this guy, he classed my rudders and keels as good condition. The keels were full of water and diesel and delaminated on the bottom and the port rudder also had bad water ingress and severe corrosion on the post. 15k NZD + to remedy. Cut keels off, cut tops of diesel tanks out for access, grind most of rudder away. Huge jobs he could have warned me about if he had done his job

10-2020 SV Sugar Shack We are an American boat that required a SAMS/NAMS surveyor for our insurance. However, we got an exemption after we obtained a “sample survey” from Christophe Citeau. Our insurance approved him and we did an out of water survey at Raiatea Carenage 6 weeks ago on our Catana 471.

He was very thorough visiting twice. Once for out of water and once in water spending a total of 4 hours on the boat. He said 95% of the boat was in “good” shape which is true and great. The only options are “good” “satisfactory” or “unsatisfactory”.

We try to be meticulous with our 20 year old gal and he was impressed by her condition. The only gripe I have is that he was unyielding on the value of the boat - even after I sent comparisons showing similar values. He was very unreasonable. Considering it was only an insurance survey. But the report itself was good other than the overall value.

He is based in Taha’a and will travel to other islands (at your expen.pfse). He charged us $700 for our 47’ catamaran.

3-2020 SV Malaika
Our boat was surveyed by Christophe Citeau in March in Raiatea and he was good.

12-2019 SV Nuwam2
We used Christophe when purchasing our boat in Raiatea and found him to be professional and thorough and reasonably priced compared to others. He required out of water as well as in-water tests/inspections and produced a in-depth report on completion.Highly recommended.
