For Services and Resources in French Polynesia

The Tahiti Cruisers Guide is brought to you by Julien Desmont from Xperimental and Chuck Houlihan from Jacaranda. Starting as an idea based on the very successful Panama City Cruisers guide, it has evolved into 200+ pages of information on vendors and services throughout French Polynesia. In January 2018, we added GPS coordinates and links to Google Maps to assist in locating businesses.

Downloading the guide and GPS map coordinates will facilitate using the guide offline. The coordinates will work for either Maps.me (best for Papeete) or Google Maps.

Especially thankful to John (SV Mary Ann II) and Steve (SV Ocean Star) for their huge effort in supplying a vast amount of information for the guide.

The guide is a community effort. Updates and new additions are greatly appreciated. If you find the guide useful or find something that needs updating please drop us a note at tahiticruisersguide (AT) gmail.com

3-22 SV Swan In March of 2022, while I was at Papeete Marina, I noticed my neighbour was having a RADAR installed. Out of curiosity and need, I approached the electrician, Thomas, tentatively as he was obviously busy. He was very helpful and responsive to my request providing good advice.

Weeks later, I returned from sailing and asked Thomas for help with trouble-shooting. Even though he was busy, he still made time to answer my questions and then recommended his colleague Alex from MarinElec (phone number +689 87374715). I was very pleased with this help, and I would recommend Thomas DuMont, although be aware he is quite popular, so he might not be available immediately.

01-21 SV Cyrolia I bought Cyrolia, a 2010 Jeanneau 53 in December 2020. Starting in January, 2021, I have been working with Thomas who has been an excellent installer, upgrader and has been able to fix just about any electrical problem I have encountered. He has installed a new GEL battery bank, replaced my charger and inverter with a Victron system, is gradually replacing all my Raymarine with B&G electronics, installed my AIS, GPS and Iridium systems. And we are redesigning and creating a new electrical panel. Because he is good, professional, reliable and fair, he is busy and should be scheduled so that you can design the systems from a bigger picture perspective as much as possible vs being reactive with fixes and installs. I highly recommend Thomas and he will continue to be my electrician so long as I am in French Polynesia.
